What is I2P?
I2P (Invisible Internet Project) is an anonymous network layer designed for internal services. Unlike Tor which is primarily designed for accessing the regular internet anonymously, I2P creates a self-contained anonymous network of services ("eepsites") and applications.
Starting I2P
$ i2prouter start
Starting I2P Service...
$ # Access router console at http://127.0.0.1:7657
Router Console
Open your browser and navigate to http://127.0.0.1:7657 to access
the I2P router console. From here you can monitor network status, manage tunnels,
and access built-in services.
Built-in I2P Applications
- I2PSnark — BitTorrent client over I2P
- I2P IRC — Anonymous IRC network
- I2PMail — Anonymous email via I2P
- Eepsite access — Browse .i2p sites
Integration Speed
I2P takes time to integrate into the network on first run. Allow 10–15 minutes before expecting full network connectivity. The router console shows integration progress in real time.
